OhmConnect

OhmConnect pays residents for conserving electricity during peak hours. I did a trial run last night between 8 PM and 9 PM and added $15.50 in PayPal funds ($10 for signing up and $5.50 for the saved hour). Turning off non-essentials gives me some time to clear my head.

Based on my time with this, the way this works is OhmConnect connects with your electric provider online (i.e. SoCal Edison/SCE.com). Users are notified of an upcoming hour (#OhmHour) typically forecast to be straining on the electric grid. When you do your part to save energy during this hour, you earn points that can be redeemed for cash. The higher the forecast, the more potential cash. If there's a downside, it is possible to have negative points if you overshoot a forecast. It might make it trickier to earn points, but you're still saving on your electric bill for trying.
